Where do I start? as someone new to safari and to Africa it was all an amazing experience, but perhaps the highlight for me was to see 20+ elephants walk past us just as dusk was approaching. They had a week old calf with them. Amazing.
A very interesting, vibrant country which obviously shares many of the issues of other African countries in overcoming poverty. It was clear to see though that there are many improvements being made in the infrastructure. They welcome visitors and everyone we met were helpful, polite and for the most part cheerful. It was interesting seeing different parts of the country with the different terrain and the difference in cultures from the mainland to Zanzibar. We have learnt such a lot.
Tanzania Deluxe Safari 5
All the Serena hotel lodges were excellent. They had all the facilities needed and yet differed in character so it didn't feel that we were traveling to hotels in the same chain. The menus varied as well, and the food was excellent. The quality of the packed lunches was good. All the staff at the hotels were very helpful.
Pongwe is in an idyllic location. It has a wonderful laid back feeling which really helps you to relax after the rigours of the safari. The staff are all very helpful and so cheerful, and full of smiles. The cottage was great facing the beach with lovely peaceful places to sit and read and relax. Food was lovely with a varied menu every day. It would have been helpful to have a wider snack menu for lunch as we didn't want a set meal but had soon exhausted the range of snacks on offer. With such a wonderful hotel it seems slightly churlish to complain about anything, however, I did feel that they do need to pay a little more attention to detail in the small things that are to be expected in a hotel of this standard and cost e.g. plug for the sink, shower cap, pen, mugs that aren't chipped or cracked. Checking out was protracted as the bill had to be added up 4 times and then later I realised that we were charged $50 for our transfer to Stone Town which had already been paid. If you can get that refunded I would much appreciate it.
It was unfortunate for us that we had been dropped at the Zanzibar Grand Palace Hotel not the Zanzibar Palace! however this was rectified quickly and the hotel sent someone round for our luggage. The hotel is very welcoming and the staff are all so helpful. Food was excellent. The rooms are interesting and characterful. It is well placed to explore Stone Town and the hotel organised a good walking tour for us. The ability to have a late check out and the use of shower facilities was really helpful.
Staff Review 5
I was extremely happy with the friendly advice I received whilst trying to decide where to go and what to do. Jamie listened to my thoughts and helped shape the holiday to make it a memorable one to celebrate my 60th. The type of safari chosen was perfect for us. We saw so much, and all praise should go to our excellent guide Joseph Maconde from Predator who was just so knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. He went out of his way to ensure that we got the most out of our safari. I always felt that I could be totally honest with Jamie and he was very patient answering my questions. The joining instructions and information was accurate and helpful.
