Overall Impressions

There were so many highlights that it is difficult to know where to start. Our two safari's were both in conservancies which meant that we had very little traffic from other safari vehicles which we appreciated. Our guides were both excellent and we saw extraordinary numbers and types of wildlife very close up. The food was so good, especially the fresh garden produce that both camps grow themselves. Our only hitch with Mahlatini was speedily corrected as we received our "joining information package" at Wilson airport prior to leaving. That was fortunate timing as our plane was leaving earlier than we thought - and we made it and everyone made our trip very comfortable. Thanks to Claire who of all the agents from various companies I looked into was the one person I most enjoyed e-mailing with and who seemed to take a personal interest in our trip. Thanks so much Claire....I also liked your website best of all.

Tortilis Camp 5

The most beautiful camp I could have ever imagined. On our last morning I opened my eyes in tent #1 and thought I was dreaming as I could see the top of Mount Kilimengaro without raising my head from the pillow. It was in sunlight and sparkling....something rare as it is usually in the clouds. Our tent was very comfortable - and I loved the showers.....bucket - on time - correct temp - total luxury in a simple eco friendly way. Joel, our guide was extraordinary....we understood every word he said...he always stopped the truck, turned to face us and spoke clearly...occ'ly he spelled out words so we would better understand. ...One felt he knew the animals personally...their habits, locals, relationships....and that he truly cared for them and for us. Also really enjoyed and felt at home with Andrea and Manuela....Great food....nice gift shop....fabulous garden. So glad we choose Tortilis. Also the best safari vehicles anywhere... Jane

Elephant Pepper Camp 5

Elephant Pepper was also lovely and at the same time very different....much more of a camping experience. I loved the fact that the animals were so close. Our first day we had some time to play croquet - which was great fun - but looking up to see zebra's close by and elephants at a distance was quite amazing. At night I woke to munching....close by - something eating grass and was told in the morning that the Cape Buffalo had come into camp in the night. Again we had a wonderful tour guide - Francis...but not quite as easy to understand as he was inclined to speak to us with the engine running and while looking straight ahead...He certainly knew his animals and was fascinating to talk on our walking safari....which was for us a highlight. The visit to the Massi village was also wonderful and the River Pride - I will never forget. All in all a fabulous experience...Barbara was just lovely too....made us all feel at home.

Staff Review 5

Claire was the only one that I corresponded with, but at the Nairobi end someone was very quick to get us our joining information....I didn't have to look for it...a very nice gentleman found me and gave it to me the minute we arrived to check in.....after I had spoken to Claire the night before. Well done.
