We had an amazing honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed every destination we visited. Safari was a great experience and we've already said that we would love to go again in the future, at Dulini or perhaps another country/game reserve.
The Victoria Falls were great to see and managed to see some multiple viewpoints (including a helicopter ride). We went at a time when there was still plenty of water in the Zambezi river, we were told that if another 3 weeks later then the falls would be dry. The Africa Queen sunset cruise on the Zambezi river was also a great trip and would recommend. Managed to see birds, hippos and crocodile whilst on the boat.
Sabi Sands was very dry at this time of year (August), but this did mean we were able to see plenty of animals on the game drives and have a great safari experience.
The local people that we met in Mauritius were all very friendly, and for UK customers/travellers they seemed to always want to know what football team you supported. August appears to be a good time to travel to Mauritius (or perhaps the west coast) as we enjoyed good sun for most days of our stay, as Mauritius begins to enter their summer months.
Was an unexpected delight of our trip. This hotel has a great location for the Victoria Falls, and provides complimentary access to the National Park allowing us unlimited access during our stay. The hotel also allow animals (Zebra, Giraffe, Impala) to graze within the grounds and was nice to see them up-close. Monkeys can be a nuisance but Rangers are always on-hand. We were provided with champagne and flowers on the bed on our first evening as part of our honeymoon, which was a nice gesture. Buffet dinner is very expensive and would probably suggest that guests eat at the poolside restaurant instead. There was a small issue where we had been checked-in incorrectly and were unable to access our room as the key had expired. We were checked-in with one day less than expected (which I had signed but didn't realise after a long night/day of travelling!), this was resolved promptly but didn't get much of an apology from staff for the unnecessary confusion and worries.
Amazing!! This was the highlight of our honeymoon, and would love to be able to go back to Dulini one day. Service is excellent and very personal, Ranger and Tracker (Patrick and Tyrone) were fantastic throughout. Rooms are lovely and well maintained, and the use of a private plunge pool is great (which can be warmed at the guest's request) for relaxing in between game drives. All staff at Dulini are great, and went above and beyond our expectations, making this a very special part of our trip. Little touches such as homemade fudge in your room, personal written messages from staff, hot towels on arrival from every game drive. And all were very caring to guests (I was suffering some illness possibly due to the anti-malarial tablets I was taking), and names of all guests were remembered by staff, helped by the fact that only 12 guests are staying at any one-time. It was unfortunate that our flight and transfer from Zambia meant we couldn't attend the afternoon drive, but not much Mahlatini can do about that! We had originally requested to stay at Chitwa Chitwa, but looking back now we are glad that it was fully booked and we were fortunately able to stay at Dulini Lodge.
We loved the private villas of Maradiva and glad we chose the extra privacy provided by the garden villa rather than the beachside villas. The private plunge pools are great for when you donâ??t want to sit by the beach, or to get out of the sun. The villas provide a good amount of shaded area. There are a range of activities that are provided complimentary as part of the resort, e.g. glass-bottom boat trip, snorkelling, bike hire, use of spa facilities, tennis court etc. However, it would be great to have a reminder/list of these complimentary activities within the villa rather than having to remember when guests first arrive. Maradiva provide a good selection of restaurants for different cuisines, and the main Coast2Coast restaurant have an optional menu each evening. Guests should book a table well in-advance in order to enjoy the Indian and Japanese restaurants. Not sure we would consider this a 5 star hotel, but perhaps our thoughts and opinions are skewed by our stay at Dulini Lodge. Maradiva Villas is a lovely hotel, but high prices of drinks, supplemental foods and services (there isnâ??t even an iron in the room as they want you to pay for laundry service!), low maintenance of equipment (bikes for use) and inconsistency of housekeeping brought down our experience of Maradiva.
Staff Review 5
Donna was really great throughout the entire booking process and was able to give some really valuable information about our trip and able to provide some personal recommendations of our own. She even kept reminding me of the original budget set for our honeymoon to ensure that we were comfortable with our final choices. Donna was always available for contact and able to handle any questions that I had, and was friendly at all times. Everything was well organised and scheduled for our trip. It was a pleasure working with Donna for organising our honeymoon.
