Volcanoes National Park is home to more than one third of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. Singita Kataza House shares a 1.2km border with the Park - the only villa in such close proximity to the habitat of the gorillas. The landscape surrounding the house is wetlands and lush meadows, with magnificent views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes.

This luxuriously modern African home is designed around local materials, the use of volcanic rock, handmade ceramic tiles, river stone, and oven-red clay bricks, made by surrounding communities, connect the villa to the landscape and its culture. Large timber-framed windows welcome the breathtaking scenery inside. The interiors show layered texture and colour and introduce detail through artisanal and handmade pieces like woven panels and clay feature pots.

The villa sleeps 8 people in 1 master suite, 1 junior master suite and 2 suites. There is also a one 2-bedroom staff residence. Every creature comfort is taken care of, with features such as a fully equipped fitness centre, a cinema, wine cellar, massage room, interactive kitchen and in and outdoor fireplaces. There are also two heated plunge pools, one off the main lounge and one off the master suite.

During your stay you will be looked after by a house manager, chef and house staff. The onsite Akarabo Gardens supply abundant fresh produce to the chef allowing him or her to offer nourishing farm-to-table cuisine that celebrates the fresh flours of Rwanda.

Apart from gorilla trekking, guests at Singita Kataza House can experience a whole host of unforgettable encounters within Volcanoes National Park, such as Golden Monkey trekking and visits to Dian Fossey's gravesite, as well as activities around the lodge including a stroll through the Akarabo Nursery and learning more about gorillas in the Conservation Room. There is also the chance to visit a Rwandan village to gain glimpses of local lifestyle and culture.

All activities at the villa are tailored to specifically suit the interests of each group or family. The minimum age requirement for gorilla trekking is 15, but the Kataza House offers childminding services, as well as an array of activities to keep little ones engaged and entertained.
