Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and is almost always the starting point of any Rwanda vacation. The city is small but offers a lively, cosmopolitan feel, with charming views over the cultivated and terraced countryside beyond. Expect to see historical memorials, plenty of craft and curio shops and colorful markets to explore. Mostly, we always remember the warm, friendly people of Kigali.
There aren't many sights in the city and don't expect organised attractions. We would suggest that you take a stroll around one or two of its lively markets and visit the Kigali Memorial Centre which documents the Rwandan genocide. It is a very insightful and moving experience.
