Luxury Safaris

Explore Luxury Safaris

Whilst of course accommodation standard is important, what normally differentiates a luxury safari from any other is the luxury of pure seclusion and privacy, of exclusive game drives and of highly professional guiding. A quality safari quite simply redefines the luxury of losing oneself in nature.

A luxury safari is as far from busloads of tourists and faceless chain lodges as you can get. Usually it involves being flown into your destination by light aircraft or helicopter or privately chauffeured in an air-conditioned car.

Your dedicated safari expert will have selected a luxurious and intimate lodge or camp to suit your personalities and requirements. On arrival you will be greeted by name by friendly staff and a welcome cool drink.

The standard of luxury accommodation across Africa is extremely high with many luxury camps and lodges offering luxurious furnishings, highly personalised service and exquisite cuisine. There are a wide range of choices on offer from high-end exclusive safari lodges to small and intimate tented camps but almost all are a step above exclusive with only a select few sharing the surrounding expansive wilderness.

Most, but not all, luxury safaris take place in private game reserves or private concession areas bordering national parks. With limited visitor numbers you avoid the throngs of jeeps and can go off the main roads in search of wildlife or partake in night drives or walking safaris which aren't always allowed in the national parks. If you haven't hired your own personal vehicle you will likely only share the vehicle with 4 to 6 other people and may only encounter 2 or 3 other vehicles during your safari. This is a massive advantage for photography purposes.

In some areas a variety of safari experiences are on offer from day and night game drives to boating, walking and fishing. Where possible luxury properties will personally tailor these experiences on a daily basis, ensuring that you make the very most of your safari.

The essence of a luxury safari is gaining a fuller insight into the wildlife and wilderness surroundings around you. Top lodges will employ only highly specialist safari guides and trackers who will be able to accommodate anyone's personal interests.

The day to day experience of a luxury safari is about more than just game drives though. It is about eating gourmet meals under the stars, lounging in private plunge pools overlooking waterholes, outdoor massages in the shade of a tree and memorable wildlife encounters at camp. It's the re-connection with nature and waking up to the knowledge that you are miles from civilisation and modern technology. It's about the above and beyond personal extras and surprises offered by the staff from picnics to romantic candlelit baths and sunset toasts.

A luxury safari should be the most memorable holiday of your life and it should start with the planning process and the completely individual service you receive from your dedicated Mahlatini safari consultant. Trust us to know which luxury safari will suit you best and we will ensure that every point in your journey you will be welcomed on arrival and assisted to ensure your holiday itinerary runs without a hitch and you can concentrate on enjoying yourself.
