Situated on the north-west coast of La Digue near La Passe village and close to Anse Severe, one of the island's fine sandy beaches, Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie is a lovely boutique hideaway. The views to Praslin from the swimming pool and restaurants are particularly stunning. With individually designed rooms, it's the perfect choice for couples and families for a holiday in Seychelles.
This boutique hotel, perhaps the best on La Digue, is perfect for a Seychelles honeymoon with just 63 individual rooms and villas, all set in delightful tropical gardens which rise steeply up the hillside. Most are reached by a leisurely walk along the winding pathways, although if you don't fancy the walk, buggy's are on hand to take the strain! All have a Seychelles design with thatched roofs and much use of local wood, but perhaps the most striking feature is the way each villa has been carefully built 'into' the hillside and surrounding granite rocks; the result is that no two villas are identical. Interiors offer unique, chic décor and most have an open bathroom as well as large terrace or balcony.
Garden Villas are closest to reception and sleep 2 adults and one child under 12 years; Villas de Charme are set further up the hillside with some having gorgeous sea views; more spacious Villas de Charme "Elegance" are located even higher up with spectacular views and also have an outdoor hot tub. Several Garden Suite Residences opened in 2015 and sleep up to 4 guests (2 adults and 2 children under 12 years or 3 adults and one child under 12); these feature a bedroom as well as a lounge area which can be converted to a separate sleeping area. Some of these rooms inter-connect. Set right at the top of the resort, a simply stunning Presidential Villa offers 3 ensuite bedrooms and spacious living areas.... and some of the most breathtaking views in Seychelles.
Dining is a delight at Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie. The open-sided 'Combava' restauarant, set on a raised deck beside the main pool, offers all day à la carte menus. 'Santosha' restaurant serves breakfast, international themed buffets and live cooking stations, as well as views to Praslin. Nightly music is offered at the 'L'Alambic' bar. However, the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail while capturing a magical sunset is at the infinity pool bar; relax in a sun lounger or stay in the pool and use the swim-up seats!
If you can tear yourself away from the fabulous infinity swimming pool and pool deck, the hotel does offer complimentary snorkelling equipment and bicycle hire. It's worth booking these in advance if you have smaller children. La Digue is renowned for its beaches and all are just a cycle ride away - admittedly, some much close than others! Anse Source d'Argent, towards the far end of the west coast is often listed on the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and well worth a visit, while further afield on the east coast, Anse Marron is spectacular.
A spectacular spa tops the resort above the jungle-clad hillside, best reached by a buggy ride from your villa. Carefully built into the surrounding granite rocks, various treatment rooms offer amazing views across the islands. There's a choice of therapies and a treatment at sunset is an unforgettable experience, whether you are enjoying a honeymoon in Seychelles or an island-hopping adventure.
15-minute inter-island flight from Mahe to Praslin, car transfer to Praslin Island jetty, then 20 minute ferry to La Digue Island and a 5 minute transfer to the hotel. Alternatively, take the 1 hour Cat Cocos ferry from Mahe to Praslin and then onward to La Digue (20 minutes).
Free snorkelling equipment. Free bicycle hire. Guided nature walks and treks. Diving and fishing can be arranged. Shopping in hotel's boutique or in nearby village of La Passe.
