Cathedral Peak Hotel is a historic property found amidst the mighty Drakensburg Mountains. First opening its doors to guests in 1939, the hotel has remained in the same family since that time and continues to provide high levels of service. Remote and secluded, the hotel is situated on 400 hectares of grassland and is surrounded by the Cathedral Peak range of the Drakensberg Mountains (from which it takes its name), emancipating guests from the everyday bustle of life with quiet calm.
There are a number of room options on offer as well as two suites. All rooms feature en suite bathrooms and of the 4 room types 3 possess verandas. Rooms are quite spacious and some, such as the superior room are inter-leading, ideal for families. The two suites are well appointed, with comfortable beds and excellent mountain views. The interiors of the accommodation are relatively modern and laced with traditional African undertones.
Cathedral Peak provides a range of facilities, including a gym with a steam bath, a 9 hole golf course and a special children's dining area and babysitting service for families. However, it is the dramatic landscape that offers guests the most. Take in the phenomenal mountain scenery from the air with helicopter flights or enjoy any of the 18 different walks and hikes the area has to offer, ranging from gentle strolls everyone can take part in to more serious hikes.
Around 400km from Johannesburg and 250km from Durban.
All of the many facilities of the hotel, including tennis and swimming pools, along with a range of outdoor activities, such as quad biking, pony rides, 18 different walks and sightseeing flights.

Review of Cathedral Peak Hotel
Old school hotel so accommodation and food not as good as elsewhere but amazing hiking and riding. Again no babysitting (at all - dinky place with zero babysitting on offer) so that was a shame, restricted Charlie and I a bit.
Incredible horse riding and stunning place with lots of fun activities for kids.
stunning setting and works very well for families however we had a real feeling that the staff were unhappy as they were not the usual south african happy and would barely say hello when you walked past them or asked for something apart from one chap called wiseman who was a winner.
