Grootbos Garden Lodge

Garden Lodge is found in the Grootbos Nature Reserve; a spectacular array of fynbos and forest clad hills that overlook the whale-watching haven of Walker Bay, near Hermanus. Home of the "Marine Big 5" - whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins; and with unparalleled floral diversity on the 1750 ha reserve, Grootbos offers you a one-of-a-kind luxury African experience.

Garden Lodge is set against the backdrop of this natural beauty, surrounded by carefully manicured fynbos gardens and native trees. Exuding African warmth, the thatch and stone accommodation evaporates into its surroundings and offers a comfortable base from which to explore the area. Guests can expect 11 suites in total divided between 3 different room types. All accommodation options feature en-suite bathrooms, air conditioners, lounges with fireplaces and breath-taking panoramas.

Designed with high arching ceilings and large windows, the main lodge offers a number of facilities, including a restaurant, children's entertainment room and a lounge to relax in. Unwind in the pool and soak up the sun on the decking while looking out upon the view. Families will find a visit to the outdoor play area rewarding, with plenty of farm yard animals for kids to befriend.

Food wasn't great. We chose to ate out a lot although it was full board. Guides / staff here weren't as impressive as Ellerman and singita.

Great place. Amazing food. Superb staff. But - if the weather is bad - and we caught some bad weather - then there really is nothing to do there or in the region. If we had been there a day longer I would have thrown in the towel and gotten up to Cape Town.
