Unwelcoming hosts, breakfast inedible, our room was badly in need of refurbishment and had a smell of dampness. We skipped breakfast on our second morning and left very early, Very dissapointing, wouldn't rate this guest house.

This was probably the most down to earth place we stayed and a bit of a walk from the town but we had the most fantastic afternoon sat drinking wine with the owners (Cecil & ?!) and their friends. They made it a great place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway. Colleen and Cyril Harding were charming and very helpful. The breakfast was excellent and a good effort was made to accommodate my husband's diet. Colleen was full of helpful, practical and useful information which we acted upon. The only reason I give them a good rather than an excellent is that relatively this was a much more "seaside guest house" experience. The furniture was adequate but not charming - a bit scuffed. They have big metal plates on the walls and in the rooms to protect the walls from suitcases. Whilst hugely practical it just doesn't give a very warm impression. Compared to La Plume it was "Pottery mug" versus "Bone China". We arrived pretty late and were offered tea or coffee. I said I'd love a glass of wine and was told there was a mini bar in the room - very practical but it would have been nice to have been offered a complementary glass of wine as we had been in the other Guest Houses(I gave Colleen this feedback and she may well act on it). This doesn't detract from the overall great hospitality we got nor from the fabulous views and location.

As we left Stellenbosh quite late in the afternoon it was almost 10.30pm before we arrived at the Hideaway Guesthouse. It was difficult to find and the owners clearly expected us much earlier. Having said that Coleen was very helpful in pointing out things of interest in the area and the food was very good.It was about a 15 minute walk to the waterfront area from the guesthouse. Overall it was a good experience.

This was a bit of a disappointment relative to the other places that we stayed. The rooms were functional rather than comfortable, tended to be cold and the breakfast wasn't comparable to the other places that we stayed in terms of choice and quality, the owners while welcoming did seem to be a little inflexible if we wanted to change the time for breakfast or our order from the day before if they weren't told well in advance.
