Mosaic Private Sanctuary

In South Africa's Overberg region, near to the coastal town of Hermanus, Mosaic Private Sanctuary is surrounded by forest of Milkwood Trees, the imposing Overberg Mountains and the azure Hermanus Lagoon. In the heart of 1,000 hectares of private land, it's easy to spend your days lazing on panoramic deck terrace admiring the stunning views. It is, however, centrally located to nearby whale watching sites, marine tours and shark cage diving, making it the perfect location for nature and activity lovers too. Here you can immerse yourself in the splendid flowers and bird-life of the Cape Floral Kingdom, lagoon cruises, stunning beaches, fascinating marine life and some of the world's most beautiful wine lands.

Guests have the choice of the secluded Lagoon Lodge with its 5 luxurious suites and communal area with plunge pool, laid out among century-old milkwood trees or 4 spacious, self-catering cottages near to the main building Spookhuis built in 1892.

The stone and thatch suites at Lagoon Lodge offer private viewing decks and expansive views of the mountains. Each room has a king bed, a sitting area, writing desk, fireplace and ceiling fan. The bathrooms are fitted with a large romantic tub, copper sink and a private outdoor shower for an "African bush" experience. The four stone self-catering cottages are surrounded by Milkwood groves, fynbos gardens and abundant bird life. Each of the cottages has a unique layout and can accommodate between two and nine guests. All built an environmentally-friendly way with stone from Mosaic and natural finishes, each cottage offers kitchen facilities, indoor fireplaces, outdoor patios and BBQs. The cottages are all serviced daily.

Following a spot of bird watching from a secluded verandah, head down the boardwalks under a tree canopy to the heated plunge pool which overlooks the mountains and lagoon. Meals and drinks are served outdoors or in the dining room by a fireplace that will warm one's soul. The cuisine is fresh and delicious, with hearty homemade fayre. There is also Mosaic's 1892 Spookhuis Cafe/Restaurant which prepares breakfast baskets, gourmet picnics, and sells organic products and homemade food.
