And to top it all, finally to Shamwari and what a way to finish off. We were so lucky with our ranger, Sipho, and were all fascinated by his knowledge, warmth and stories. The conservation centre and Born Free foundation gave further insights and it's great to see the level of investment Shamwari had made in the face of the rhino poaching challenge. We saw everything except the leopard (surprise!) and Summer had also come early with temperatures rising to 33/34 degrees. On leaving I think it's fair to see there were a few tears shed by some of the Casey family when saying goodbye to Sipho.

Perhaps it was due to the accommodation that had preceded it, but we did feel riverdene was a step down from the standard of accommodation we had experienced before. It was clean, tidy and spacious, but lacked any style and character. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the food was not outstanding. Riverdene is a family orientated lodge, however, with the ages of our children, it was not the most appropriate. We unfortunately had another group in the lodge with much younger children that took over the dining room and were not disciplined in any way, which meant meals was rather less enjoyable. The safari experience however, was incredible. Our ranger, JJ, was fantastic. It couldn't have been better in any way. This part was definitely 5/5
