Set in spectacular untouched surroundings Thonga Beach Lodge is a perfect luxury beach retreat, that has undergone and extensive refurbishment as of 2013. Based in the Greater St Lucia Wetlands area, a World Heritage site, the Lodge offers 50km of untouched coastline offering amazing opportunities for snorkelling and off shore scuba diving. The thatched open plan rooms really make you feel part of the environment blending in to the coastal forest canopy. Since refurbishment the lodge offers a new spa, dining area and lounge as well as an additional swimming pool.
The lodge itself is nestled into beautiful coastal dune forest with sweeping views of the stunning beach below. Each of the 13 bush suites provides guest privacy and is carefully constructed to ensure minimal impact on the environment. All rooms are thatched and open plan with a private bathroom and balcony. Every room has air conditioning and either a sea or coastal forest view. One of the suites has been newly added and boasts wonderful ocean views and a private pool.
By road: approximately 5 hour's drive from Durban. You will leave your vehicle for the last hour's drive which will be in one of the lodge's 4x4 vehicles along the forested dune roads. By air: A charter flight to Manzengwenya airstrip only 30 minutes' drive away, or a scheduled flight to Richard's Bay roughly 3 to 4 hours' drive away.
Turtle tracking (Nov - Mar), snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, sundowners on Lake Sibaya, bird watching, fishing, forest walks, cultural visits and the Open Ocean Experience where it is possible to spot dolphins, whale sharks & other marine life.

We loved the location and the activities offered, having taken advantage of almost everything they had to offer during out stay. Our only negative comment is one of our two rooms did not have air conditioning.
