The PortsWood Hotel
With a strong central location and an interesting history, the PortsWood Hotel is situated on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and within easy walking distance of many of the city's main attractions. An integral part of Cape Town's colonial history, the hotel was once one of Cape Town's largest prisons and is recognised as a national monument. However, today the renovated interior is now elegant and welcoming.
Rooms are standard but very much satisfactory and provide all of the comforts of home. Guests can choose between 59 twin rooms, 35 double rooms and 9 suites, which are naturally more luxurious and possess a lounge area. Guests can expect complementary WiFi access as well as 24 hour room service and a valet service. Air conditioning, en suite bathrooms and wheelchair access in some rooms are also provided.
If guests should prefer to dine in, rather than spend the evening in any of the restaurants that dot the waterfront, then the hotel's Quarterdeck Restaurant is extremely accommodating. Ideal for guests with a slightly more adventurous pallet, Quarterdeck serves up an infusion of Malaysian, Cape and Indonesian cuisine. The hotel offers a variety of other facilities as well, including a relaxing swimming pool, small library and conference facilities for those on businesses.
