Fugitives Drift Lodge
An award-winning pioneer of heritage tourism in South Africa, Fugitives Drift Lodge is set in a 5000-acre game reserve with 22km of river frontage. It is synonymous with the late David Rattray, an internationally recognised authority on the battlefields of KwaZulu Natal. Fugitives Drift still works with the team he put together in order to bring the Anglo-Zulu war back to life.
Fugitives Drift Lodge offers 10 spacious, en suite rooms each with its own veranda looking out towards Buffalo Gorge. You will eat communally in the large dining room or out on the deck and after your battlefield tour can take a dip in the swimming pool, with fantastic views out over Isandlwana and Rorkes' Drift.

Thought the recommended wine at dinner was a little expensive compared with everywhere else…

We loved this place. The room was fantastic, the staff excellent, the food was some of the best we had in SA. The battlefield tours were first class with very knowledgeable guides, who left us feeling quite emotional. Nicky is continuing the fantastic work with the local children and ensuring that …
