Boschendal
Situated a short 15-minute drive from Franschhoek village, between Stellenbosch and Paarl, is the Boschendal Farm, a working agricultural farm offering a plethora of activities, award winning wine and gourmet food. With a grand mountain backdrop, you can expect dappled oak tree avenues, 17th century Cape Dutch architecture, rustic-chic interiors and even ducks waddling up and down the estate.
The luxury guest accommodation includes option of staying in the historical Herbert Baker designed, Cottage 1685 (sleeps 10) or the beautifully restored 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom Orchard Cottages, all dotted around the property. Guests can also choose to stay in the Werf Garden Suites, close to the deli shop, restaurant and wine tasting; or in a more remote location amongst the hillside fynbos. All the cottages have a full kitchen (or kitchenette in the smaller cottages) where you may wish to prepare meals using fresh farm produce bought at the estate's Deli. Alternatively, you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner baskets brought to your cottage or eat at the Werf Restaurant, Farmshop & Deli, or picnic area.

We loved this area and spent lots of time doing activities - the kids enjoyed the tree house and we did a family picnic. The more casual restaurant had delicious food and drinks. I do note that the restaurant service was a bit aloof and we felt at times we were inconveniencing them by being there. …

The cottages are lovely to stay in, the estate is stunning and it provides a great point from which to explore the local winelands. The food is terrific and of course, you have a fantastic collection of wines on tap. The kids really enjoyed exploring and the activities that were available.

We were greeted by the welcoming staff at Boschendal for a quick two-night stay. Our Orchard Cottage was top-notch, with many amenities such as a welcome basket, wine, fireplace, porch, and a large bathroom. We took advantage of the daily breakfast, a picnic lunch, horseback riding, and a wine tast…

We were so spoiled at Mala Mala and the One & Only Cape Town that I fear we set our sights too high for Boschendal. We were wowed by the property and our accommodations but the customer service was less than stellar. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, so we asked if they could store our luggage…
