Asilia Matemwe Retreat

Explore Tanzania

Matemwe Retreat is located on an amazing stretch of private land, just north of Matemwe's main lodge and right opposite the Mnemba Atoll. The Retreat consists of 4 fabulous, separate villas, all of which share a small beach. The ground floor of each villa features a private bar area, an air conditioned bedroom and a bathroom. A spacious veranda equipped with a comfortable couch and large hammock provides the perfect spot to unwind. The private roof terrace hosts a plunge pool complete with both sun and shade decks.

Though the villas are uniquely beautiful, it is the personal service at Matemwe Retreat that makes it such a remarkable place to stay. Meals can be served on your private terrace or in the gardens of Matemwe Retreat by a personal butler who will also arrange any activity desired, from a snorkelling trip or spice tour, to a lazy cocktail by the private plunge pool.

For a more sociable atmosphere, it's just a 5??10 minute walk down to the restaurant at Matemwe Lodge, where you can also relax by the bar or pool or simply interact with other guests.

Only one word can describe the Matemwe Retreat: luxury, and even that doesn?t do it justice. Absolute, unspoilt luxury beyond any expectations. Our every want and desire was met and then some. The accommodation was just perfect, from the fully stocked bar to the ocean view. All of the staff were very friendly and having a personal butler left us completely spoilt. The food and menu choices were absolutely delicious and cooked and presented in a manner one would expect of a Michelin star restaurant. We really stretched our budget to stay at the Matemwe Retreat and have absolutely no regrets in doing so. We would urge anyone staying there to try to do the same but have no doubt the Matemwe Bungalows are equally as rewarding.

Awesome - the cottage we had at the retreat was amazing so much room, great design. Loved our plunge pool. Took a bit of getting used to having a butler but now I don't know how I'll live without one. He took so much time to make sure we were perfectly happy it was great. So romantic and so relaxing. Diving was excellent as were massages. Main resort was also great, lovely gardens. The whole place just has this magical feel.......and the days belnd into one and you just loose yourself. Perfect for honeymoon. Food was sometimes excellent sometimes only good. They had a tendancy to really over cook the grilled fish which was a shame because that's what we love to eat when we stay by the sea. We did get to eat loads of lobster though so easily made up for it. Cocktails were not included in the all inclusive package which I thought was a bit tight.
