Unguja Lodge is found in a quiet corner in the south of Zanzibar Island. Embracing the traditional, the lodge has been constructed from authentic materials, with coral, makuti (mats made from palm leaves woven together) and coconut wood used in the construction of the main lodge and the accommodation. The Lodge was built by Zanzibari craftsmen, utilising their skills to achieve an organic, traditional ambience to the property.
There are only 12 villas at the property all of which possess typical Zanzabari interiors and are very comfortable. Beds are particularly noteworthy; found in the loft these high beds are reminiscent of those used by the rich in days of old. Baobab Villas are, naturally, shaded under a large baobab tree and very private, while the Sea View Villas and Family Houses boast wonderful sea views. All Villas possess ceiling fans, private safes, mosquito nets, open plan shower rooms and a private terrace.
A 20 minute flight from Dar es Salaam.
Diving from the PADI dive centre 'Unguja Divers' and a number of excursions including sunset cruises, guided village walks and visits to Stone Town.
