Emerson Spice Hotel is a restored 19th-century house, once home to Swahili royalty, built in the Swahili-Arabian style. The 11 individually decorated rooms are built around an airy central courtyard and feature latticed balconies overlooking the heritage-listed old district of Stone Town. The interiors are packed with Zanzibari antique furniture, original carved wood, and rich textiles. Even the staff are dressed in traditional clothing, adding to the feeling that you have stepped into another era.
Named after fictional heroines from history, the 11 rooms, including 2 superior suites, each have a unique character. Expect vivid colours, antique furniture, carved wooden Zanzibari beds, and hammam-style baths with modern shower overhead. Your breakfasts will be had on the roof terrace or can be delivered to your balcony. At night the terrace becomes The Tea House, one of the city’s best restaurants. If you are dining in for lunch, there's also the Secret Garden restaurant downstairs, a more casual spot in a quiet stone courtyard. Emerson Spice is a great base for exploring Stone Town and learning more about its long history. A maze of winding streets and alleyways, you will become lost in the culture and heritage of this one-time capital of the spice trade.

Honeymoon to Emerson Spice
We truly believe that the Emerson Spice is on the road to excellence! The rooms are well decorated and the food is excellent, especially dinner on the roof terrace. Shame that they building the room next door to us so the banging from the hammers and drills were are a bit noisy through the day.
