The Residence Zanzibar is a seductive retreat of private pool villas within a lush, forested 32-hectare estate. The resort blends modern comforts with Swahili, Omani, British and Indian influences. The huge resort is spread out along the coast with the Luxury Beach front and Prestige Beach Front villa types on the seafront and the garden rooms are set back. All the 66 villas have air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, huge bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, each with its own infinity pool outside the front next to a veranda with sun beds and then a short walk to the beach or negotiate your way around by golf cart or bicycle. The resort has excellent facilities with full spa, gym, huge main swimming pool, water sports area, tennis courts and kids club.

The Residence Zanzibar was slightly disappointing primarily due to the service. The staff was very slow and not accommodating. While we had an all-inclusive package getting drinks took quite long. Additionally, there was only one pool with not enough seats. We had no help from staff with moving poo…
Our experience at The Residence unfortunately started off on the wrong foot. Due to some payment errors in their systems, they could not see that Mahlatini's payment had come through and therefore made us wait 2 hours before allowing us to check in. A few other comments on the overall stay:

The room was good, great plunge pool, the sea was tidal so disappeared in the morning and came back late afternoon. The food was very disappointing, management need to assert staff more to their duties as there certainly wasn’t a shortage of staff.
