Six Senses Bumthang

Located in a pine forest above a babbling, trout-filled stream, Six Senses Bumthang hotel offers guests an immersive experience in the natural beauty of its surroundings, respecting and honoring the environment. The lodge features eight suites and one two-bedroom villa, all with spacious balconies and serene forest views across the valley. This is an area to be active – the lodge has bikes guests can borrow – and there are some great day hikes in the surrounds.

Eight of the suites at Six Senses Bumthang are the same, beautifully sculpted from local timber to effortlessly blend in with the surrounding forest. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, and spacious balconies look out over lush greenery. For two couples travelling together, or a family, the Two-Bedroom Villa offers huge space, plus a private spa treatment room. Although very small, with just two treatment rooms, the spa here is excellent. Treatments start with a singing bowl ritual, and often include a traditional hot stone bath with soothing local herbs. The chef at Tongtshang restaurant is a magician, creating memorable dishes from a host of mouth-watering ingredients such as buckwheat, freshwater algae and locally foraged mushrooms. The cocktails aren’t bad either – particularly noteworthy is the pine syrup and local whiskey concoction.
