Esteemed for its natural beauty, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is an incredible example of nature at its best. Famed as the world's largest waterfall and one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Falls are a huge tourist attraction. In and around the Victoria Falls area, the majesty of nature is nicely complemented by the refinement of luxury and a host of action packed activities as well. Many of the properties around the Falls are spectacular; Mahlatinis Nikki recently paid a visit to 5 of the best on the Zambian side, here are her thoughts and recommendations on what Victoria Falls hotels you should look out for:
Luxurious Victoria Falls Hotels
Toka Leya
Just upstream of Victoria Falls, the Wilderness Safaris tented camp Toka Leya provides the perfect wilderness experience with just the right amount of luxury. Still upholding the airs of a bush camp the property is not such a culture shock when returning to civilisation after a safari. With 12 roomy en-suite tents and a stunning outdoor area, staying at the camp was a pleasure; very relaxing and comfortable.

Sussi and Chuma
Sanctuary Sussi and Chuma is divided between 12 luxury Sussi tree-houses and 2 Chuma houses, which are perfect for families, the two parts of this lodge are named after David Livingstone's close friends. Uniquely located in the middle of the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park the property is surrounded by Phoenix palms and Jackalberry trees, the ideal setting to relax after a hard day spent enjoying the activities at the Falls.

River Club
Perhaps one of the most exclusive properties and one of our favourite Victoria Falls hotels is the River Club. Small and intimate and with a strong colonial décor, its 10 beautifully furnished rooms are extremely comfortable. Boasting its own tennis court and running track, the River club provides guests with sunset cruises on the Zambezi. The other property on our list owned by Wilderness Safaris, the River Club is certainly the more expensive option of the two.

Tongabezi
With an array of beautiful lodge buildings, Tongabezi is an ideal place for anyone wishing to get up close and personal with the Falls. The lodge offers excursions to Livingstone Island; a small outcrop of land perched on the very edge of the waterfall, which allows for incredible views and is very romantic. As a result the property is a must for honeymooners, while staying at Tongabezi I noticed several little areas where meals can be set up for a completely private experience.

The Royal Livingstone
The Royal Livingstone offers Victorian finery and splendour while only a 15 minute walk away from the roaring Victoria Falls. With its own private entry, the resort allows guest unlimited free access to the Falls. Providing very much a traditional hotel experience, all the while veiled in luxury, the property possesses 173 en-suite guestrooms located in 17 different residences along the river bank of the Zambezi. I had the chance to experience the hotel's spa and enjoyed a fantastic Swedish massage, perfect for working out any aches and pains picked up on safari.
