SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Denis Private Island is an unpolished gem that exists in complete harmony with its natural surroundings. There are numerous examples of their commitment to conservation, one being their thriving bird populations. Since the introduction of critically endangered endemic bird species to the island, including the Seychelles Magpie Robin, Seychelles Paradise Flycatcher, and Seychelles Warbler, the species have been downgraded from "critically endangered" to "endangered." The waters surrounding the island have been declared a marine protected zone and turtles are able to nest on the island throughout the year.

The island also boasts a self-sustaining farm that supplies the restaurant with all necessary meat, dairy, poultry, and fresh produce. Local fishing is also carried out by the team to reduce the carbon footprint of its supply chain. Excess produce is sold at a farm shop on Mahé, providing high-quality, non-imported meat to locals. The island is also a leader in sustainable power, with one of the largest solar power projects in Seychelles and a goal to operate on 100% clean energy by the end of 2023.

Denis Private Island is a signatory of the UNESCO Sustainable Travel Pledge and was named the winner of the Luxury Lifestyle International Sustainable Awards in 2023. The Green Islands Foundation, an NGO initially set up to manage conservation projects on Denis Island alone, now manages projects on multiple other islands.
