Discover Kubu Island

Disembark from Jack's Camp to quad bike across the vast expanse of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans to reach the fabled Kubu Island. Renowned as one of Botswana's most beautiful and magical locations, the island, which is comprised of thick granite rock, is considered sacred by locals. An estimated 2.7 billion years old, the island is an odd break in an otherwise flat landscape of empty pans.

You will be camping for 2 nights on the island, sleeping under a seemingly endless sky of stars and surrounded by towering baobabs and huge boulders. Staff arrives at the campsite early, setting up the essentials so everything is ready on your arrival. Staff will have laid the table for dinner, set the fire, and prepared hot water for showers. Food is an adventure in itself, with the cuisine served delicious and elegantly presented. Spend the next 2 days enjoying the luxury of the pan's emptiness and exploring the area. Once a super lake the size of Switzerland, now long dried up, the pans are home to a number of fascinating artifacts left from the past. You will have the chance to find flint, beads, and glass used by ancient bushmen from years ago. At certain times so the year it is also possible to witness the colorful extravagance of 30,000 flamingos, calling at the pan when water is good.
