Originally the home of a Chettiar family, this property was transformed into a boutique hotel in 2005, and beautifully showcases the art and culture of the region. The interiors feature floors, high ceilings with teakwood beams, and open courtyard. True to the CGH Earth portfolio, Visalam emphasizes sustainability by utilizing solar power and employing staff from the local community. With spacious, airy rooms decorated with local arts and handicrafts, outstanding cuisine, and a lovely pool, this is the an excellent base for exploring the Chettinad region.

The rooms at Visalam have remained largely unchanged since the house was built over a century ago. Brimming with charm and original character, they feature gleaming polished floors, high ceilings, local tiles, and exquisite wooden furniture crafted from high-quality Burma teak. The fabrics used throughout the rooms are sourced from the renowned handloom weavers of the region, while the walls display a unique sheen created by the local technique of polishing plaster with egg whites. Staying true to the ‘keep it local’ philosophy, a variety of exceptional Ayurvedic treatments are offered for those seeking relaxation. In the courtyard garden, a large pool beckons for a refreshing dip. Dining options span four different venues, with a strong emphasis on the vibrant local cuisine. Interactive cooking lessons provide a fantastic way to take a taste of Chettinad home with you. The hotel also offers a range of excursions, including a bullock cart ride, and provides bicycles for exploring the surrounding area.
