Old Harbour Hotel

The Old Harbour Hotel, in the heart of the old trading post-Fort Cochin, is a place that exudes history and culture. The hotel sits in a 300-year-old building that has long been a heritage monument of the town. Built in the Dutch style of architecture with hints of Portuguese influences, it is now a boutique hotel near to the town's famous Chinese fishing nets, the Ernakulum ferry and the spice market.

The interiors of the hotel are an eclectic blend of dated furniture and varied art that juxtapose to create a unique style. The 13 spacious rooms, each of them named after the various old streets of Fort Cochin, are plush with high ceilings and either look into a courtyard with a fountain or over the ancient Chinese Fishing nets. Most rooms have four-poster beds and antique furnishings. The special garden cottages, which were added to offer a feel of Kerala, have open-to-the-sky showers, a veranda and a private pond. The property also features a large garden with a swimming pool as well as a stage for cultural performances, all of it set amidst plenty of natural green. For relaxation there’s an Ayurvedic spa, yoga lessons and a stunning library. The 1788 Restaurant offers Indian and international dishes and spills out through triple arches onto an open terrace. In the evenings it is filled with the soothing sounds of traditional sitar players and the gentle croaks of frogs from the lily pond.
