Bhutan Solo Vacation
For solo travelers looking to get a very good feel for Bhutan, this itinerary has been designed to showcase three main valleys – Thimphu, Punakha and Paro. You will stay in well-appointed accommodation throughout and enjoy the company of an experienced private guide. Dig deep into the many mysteries and joys of traveling to this fabulous mountain kingdom.
After the short, scenic flight from Delhi to Paro drive with your guide to the diminutive capital of Bhutan, Thimphu. Famed for its lack of traffic lights, Thimphu is compact and has some beautiful, and interesting sites to explore. The National Memorial Chorten is an attractive building and a meeting point for locals who come to offer prayers and catch up on the gossip. The Golden Buddha statue is visible for all over. Explore, and hike around it with your guide. Next, Punakha which is reached via a scenic drive of around 3-4 hours with a stop along the way at the Dochu-la. This is a stunning collection of stupas and chortens, bedecked with colorful prayer flags and overlooking towering snow-capped mountains. In Punakha discover the mighty Dzong (fortress/monastery) on the banks of the river and hike out to Chhimi Lhakang temple to learn about the divine madman who once lived there.
The final leg of your journey through this beguiling little country is Paro. Climb up to the Taktsang Monastery, more commonly known as the Tiger’s Nest monastery. The climb is worthwhile, as the atmosphere in this monastery is quite extraordinary. It feels as though you have travelled back many hundreds of years. The views are superb. Perhaps pick up a few souvenirs in town before flying back, to Delhi and onwards home.
