This action-packed family adventure takes in the best of Sri Lanka, its cultural highlights, its beautiful beaches, and its wildlife. Four stops around the island, including the cities of Kandy and Colombo, the remote East Coast, and the Cultural Triangle, will allow the family to fully appreciate all that the country has to offer. The family will learn more about Sri Lankan cultural heritage and experience plenty of fun-filled outdoor adventures.
The first stop will be the Buddhist hill city of Kandy staying at Kings Pavilion, a boutique hotel in the mountains outside the city. Here you will visit the famous Temple of the Tooth, housing the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Then it’s time to head to Uga Jungle Resort, a remote resort on a near-deserted beach on the island’s barely inhabited north-eastern coast. The area offers a plethora of significant historical sites, cultural hotspots, and wildlife sanctuaries. The kids will love the boat trip to Pigeon Island, a veritable open-air aquarium, and the chance to see dolphins and whales (in season). There will be plenty of swimming and snorkeling too. Next stop, the Cultural Triangle, staying in the eco-boutique hotel Ulagalla. Set amongst rice paddies, it’s the perfect spot to return to after climbing the UNESCO Sigiriya Rock Fortress, exploring the Dambulla Cave Temple or cycling the backroads of Anuradhapura with a historian visiting 3 famous temples. The area isn’t all about culture, there’s also the chance to see Asian elephants on game drives to nearby parks. Before flying out you will stay a night in the capital Colombo and experience a unique street food walk.
