This honeymoon is for lovers of culture. Tick off Sri Lanka’s main heritage spots in Colombo, Sigiriya and Kandy, chug through the island’s exquisite hill country on a vintage train and then jet off to cosmopolitan Dubai.
This colorful itinerary begins with an exciting evening street food experience through Colombo, culminating with drinks and a cheese platter at the Grand Oriental Hotel offering a memorizing view of Colombo city and the harbor. From here you will travel to Sigiriya where you will have the chance to climb this UNESCO World Heritage rock fortress, as well as go on a unique backroad cycling tour around Anuradhapura with a historian. Staying at the watery wonderland Water Garden, you will return after busy sightseeing to a tranquil retreat. A night in the Buddhist hill city of Kandy offers the chance to take in the Dambulla cave temple and to visit the Temple of the Tooth which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. From here you will depart on a vintage train and pass through the Tea Country’s forests, villages, waterfalls, and tea estates. Staying in a historic tea planter’s bungalow, Ceylon Tea Trails, you will be transported back in time enjoying afternoon tea, butler service and lawn croquet with a cold Pimm’s. Discover the intricate art of making tea and venture on walks and bike rides. The honeymoon then concludes in Dubai. Aside from the beaches, deserts and shopping, Dubai offers many opportunities to learn more about Emirati culture and heritage. We suggest taking a cultural tour of the Grand Mosque, riding on an Abra on the Dubai Creek, visiting the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, and haggling with the locals at the Spice and Gold Souks.
