Start your journey in Kolkata with a stay at the classy Glenburn Penthouse. West Bengal’s mega city moves at a frenetic pace and has some of India’s best-preserved British architecture. Watch locals play cricket on the scorched grasses of the maiden, admire the Victoria Memorial and enjoy a sunset cruise on the Hooghly River. Following a flight to Guwahati, your river cruise begins. India’s eastern corner is a world away from the more well-trodden roads of India and it remains untouched by mass tourism. Travelling by boat opens up a treasure trove of history, culture, wildlife and religion. Spend 7 nights aboard the luxurious Assam Bengal Navigation cruiser sailing from Guwahati to Silghat on the Brahmaputra River. An active expedition, enjoy jeep safaris at Kaziranga National Park, home to one-horned rhinoceros and elephants and a boat trip in Nameri National Park, which has excellent bird-watching opportunities.
Step off the boat to visit beautiful, off-the-beaten-track monasteries, walk through Sualkuchi to learn about Assam silk production and take a cycle rickshaw tour through Tezpur.
