Discover Peponi Hotel

A small, boutique hotel on the remote Kenyan island of Lamu, Peponi Hotel is a bit of an institution, a favourite ‘low-fi’ spot for seclusion-seeking royals and celebs. Having been in the hands of the same family since 1967, it is very personal. It’s the perfect rest after a safari or a hide away holiday from modern life. Offering both culture and beach in one, Peponi is 2 miles by boat from Lamu Old Town – a World Heritage Site – at one end of the 12km white sand Shela beach.

The eco-friendly hotel features 12 standard and 17 superior rooms. All rooms are unique in décor and layout and have verandas overlooking the ocean. The superior rooms additionally have swinging hammocks and are more spacious. Relaxation is the name of the game here with a freshwater pool under the baobabs, swinging hammocks under the shade of coconut trees and gardens filled with exotic plants and tropical palms. Dining takes place in various locations around the property including the roof terrace and the locally popular bar. Expect Swahili-style cooking and fresh seafood. Peponi offers a host of activities including exploring Lamu Town, dhow boat trips, water sports, snorkelling and fishing.
