“The Maldives was absolutely incredible. We unfortunately would not return to Amari. The overwater bungalows were definitely looking a bit old (the nets to lay in out front looked like they had been there for 20 years and they continually tried to patch them up - they did not look safe). The resort catered pretty exclusively to Russian guests. We did not think this was going to be an issue but culturally there are definitely big differences. They all bring their own Bluetooth speakers wherever they go and blast their own music (which the resort had to specifically put up signs saying that was not allowed). Everyone smoked everywhere - including in areas that specifically say no smoking - and the resort staff never say anything to anyone. The water sports company Euro Divers tried charging us for a full extra dive that we did not do. While we were trying to check out at 4am to catch our flight, I said it was incorrect and they would not fix it and said I had to pay the full bill or we could not leave on the boat. Overall the Maldives could not be any more beautiful - but definitely not the best experience with the hotel.”
