Vicki Carder, 26th February 2025Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. All transfers were on time and drivers were very friendly, completely stress-free. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and professional. Even with a small miscommunication at GOLD it was swiftly resolved.
Accommodation Visited
Tamarind Tree Hotel
“This hotel serves a purpose and its proximity to Wilson is ideal. For us this was a generic hotel and not especially special, but we weren’t expecting it to be. We had a great meal at Carnivore which was delicious. There was no conditioner included in the room amenities. This would have been nice.”
Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp
“This was a fantastic hotel/camp. From the minute we arrived we felt so welcomed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious.
It was very quiet when we were there and so some evenings were plated dinners and not buffet. We found the portion sizes to be very large and felt bad not being able to finish our plates! I imagine if it was just the buffet, the portions are chosen by the individual so might not be a recurring issue but we thought it was worth mentioning.
Drinks/bar were all very good. Perhaps some playing cards in the communal area would be nice. We tried to play chess one night but were not very good!
Our room was incredibly comfortable and a great experience. The bathroom was well equipped. Dancan, our room attendant, was very friendly.
The drives were incredible. We were so lucky to have Erick join Moses as part of his training. They were both so knowledgeable and I think having 2 drivers was a real treat for us.
As a suggestion, it might be good if the drivers had their own binoculars and then each couple shared a pair as we did a lot of sharing back and forth with both Erick and Moses. Additionally, it would be a nice touch if you could hire/borrow binoculars from reception to take to your tent and view from there. I imagine a thermal camera/scope would be out of the question but would be very cool to use at night!”
Gold Zanzibar Beach House and Spa
“We enjoyed our time at this resort and the staff were all very friendly. The buffet in the main restaurant was very good and there was a wide selection of options. We ate at the a la carte restaurant too which was very good. The staff went above and beyond to make our honeymoon special, with a beach front dinner, massage discount, champagne in our room and a lovely farewell dinner.
The menu at the a la carte was a little confusing as the starters were all mixed in with the mains so perhaps a reorder of the menu would help.
The entertainment provided was great and the buffet around the pool was a super experience. The bar staff attendance at the beach/pool was good but sometimes a little slow/infrequent.
The hotel itself was very clean and well maintained. It did feel a little tired in places but this was not an issue. The spa experience was lovely and we both enjoyed our massage.”
