vacation to South Africa & Mozambique
Josh Mack, 25th November 2025Trip of a lifetime and accommodations were great. The one stress we had was our transfers. I think an extra hour should be buffered in. Our first transfer from Kensington Place to Cape Town Airport was ok but we made it with about an hour to spare. Our checked luggage came in overweight and we had to wait in a long line to pay for the overage. 1 window, 1 person working, about 50 people in line. Luckily, our driver from Wilderness was still there and he helped talk to an airport employee and got us moving but it was quite stressful waiting in the security queue with 40 min before boarding. Our second transfer from Chitwa to Kruger Airport was a disaster - over 3 hour drive through bumpy bumpy roads throughout villages. We also got caught in 2 construction stops once we made it to the highway. We got to the airport with 20 min to spare. The gate was closed and I had to beg the woman at the check in counter to let us make the flight. By the grace of God, she let us through only because our captain and crew were late. It was an extremely extremely stressful day.
Accommodation Visited
Kensington Place
“Amazing, great room. Great service. Great location to the city. Food was excellent too. And on our last night they set up rose petals and champagne for our honeymoon. Very special and knowledgeable staff.”
Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge
“Star of the show. Extremely special place in our hearts. Our guide was amazing and we formed lifelong new friendships. Will talk about Chitwa for the rest of our lives. They also went all out for our honeymoon with candles and rose petals and champagne in our room. Staff was top notch.”
Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort and Spa
“We relaxed here but Anantara was just OK. They were not at full capacity and the staff were very much on top of us. We also felt there presence around every corner and felt all of them were fiending for a tip. A little annoying. Also the property is very spread out and we had to walk the length of the property every day just to get to lunch. Our room was very nice. They did not do anything special for our honeymoon which is fine. The transfer accommodations were also a little bizarre. When the boat took us back to the mainland they pretty much dump you at the shoreline at a shack and then they have you get in a van. Our driver told us he wanted to take us on the scenic route through the beach town before taking us to the airport which as a tourist raised a couple red flags. I wasn't sure where we were going and I didn't want to become a problem but we really just wanted to get to the airport. At the Vilanculo airport after getting through security, the security agent brought me into an office that said "Polizia" on it and tried selling me woven beach bags. I had Stephanie wait outside but it was an extremely uncomfortable situation. I had to talk my way out of it but as you can imagine I am standing in an office with an armed agent on my last day of honeymoon just trying to get home.”
Staff Review
“Excellent.”
