vacation to South Africa & Mauritius
Mrs Susanne Fuerst, 3rd August 2013The Cape Grace Hotel, perfect in every way. The room, service, breakfast, free car service within a radius of hotel, location...all great! Our full day tour of the Pennisula was so informative and interesting with Marguerite from Wilderness. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about the flora and fauna. Great guide with excellent knowledge and restaurant/wine recommendations as well! Weihan and Palance, our guide and tracker at Shumbalala Game Lodge..both we're amazing and so entertaining! Close encounters with the animals were spectacular. We saw all the big 5+! On the last drive, our guide asked me what I wanted to see and I said a Black Rhino, one of the most difficult to find since they are in the bush and there are only 6 in 37000 acres. But we tracked fresh tracks and found one! The animals were amazing. Shumbalala Lodge was great, the ambiance, food, etc.

“Mauritius was dissapointing for us. Took a full day tour of the island and it was just marginally interesting. The Sugar Adventure was over-rated and the recommended restaurant there is poor. The Chamarel Colored Valley wasn't worth the trip. We went to Catholic mass and to the market/Caudan Waterfront on Sunday AM....Totally uninteresting. No good shopping or restaurants. Mauritius is dirty and poor and I understand why people stay at their resort. At the end of our trip we wish we would have spent more time in Cape Town and at the Shumbalala Lodge.”

“Amazing! Our flight was delayed so we missed out on seeing the vineyards so may have to go back...It was just beautiful with very interesting flora and fauna! The Pennisular Tour was excellent scenery.”

“Fantastic. Food and accomodations were amazing. Beautiful setting. The towels were a slightly worn, and after daily housekeeping there were dead bugs in the shower. But we could overlook a couple insignificant things being in the bushveld. Dinner was delightful. Our guide and tracker were amazing...we had a lot of fun there and wish we could have had another day there.”

“Facilities are amazing. Beach staff and watersports assistants were fantastic. We loved the beach, despite it being rocky...hard to walk out into the water. The breakfast was disappointing, especially hot breakfast. Dinner was very good. Service was okay. They would not accomodate us with late check out on our last day even to 1pm or 2pm despite our flight being at 10:30PM. Had to be out of room at 12PM. During our introduction to the hotel, the staff member also had to answer the phone non-stop because he was one of the few that spoke good English. So we waited over and over again while he took calls, annoying as we wanted to get to the beach! Wine by the glass was a ridiculously small amount. We always got a bottle after the first night to be sure we knew how much we'd get. Spa was lovely but very expensive! $90 for a manicure. Got a schedule of fitness classes but when I went the instructor did not show up. There were 6 people waiting to take the class! The transfers and the taxi driver/guide for the tour were excellent. The facilities are well maintained. The staff seemed unexperienced about customer service. Took dirty towels away but didn't replace them. Didn't change sheets once in a 5 night stay. We had a great time there but were frustrated a few times with lack of customer service.”
