“They upgraded us which was a nice touch. Very comfortable accommodation and attentive staff. As we were the only people staying in the hotel, it did feel a touch quiet/sad”
Serengeti Under Canvas
“Brilliant experience. Tremendous and freindly service as well as great food (particulalry given the isolation). Would definitely repeat the under canvas experience (maybe in Botswana next time!) based on this stay. May be worth warning guests that the trip form Nairobi is long. To get to Kogatende we took three light aircraft, stopping at about six airstrips with a couple of stop-vers.”
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
“Wonderful experience. A beautiful lodge with wonderful food. Game viewing was very good but the business of the crater does detract from the experience slightly - but that is waht it is and we understand that!”
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
“Fantastic staff with lovely food and great cocktails. The bar and dining areas were very beautiful. Game viewing was poor compared to the other stops and being confined to the roads means it is tough to spot game in meaningful numbers. Manyara offered a nice contrast to the Seregeti and the crater (which was what we were after) but we would likely not return (whereas we woudl go back to teh Serengeti)”
The Residence Zanzibar
“Beautiful resort. Well run with good staff. Room was fantastic, as was the main swimming pool. One big negative from our perspective was the insistance on buffet meals... We were there 5 days/nights and out of the 15 meals, 13 were buffet style. The food served was not bad, but buffet food is never that great. In picking the Residence we knew we were heading to a larger resort and that buffets were a possibility, but there were just too many! We have experienced this issue in other hotels and can't help but feel that they detract from the atmosphere of a luxury hotel - lining up for mediocre food with a local band singing cover songs does not feel very special. We appreciate 100% that this is a very personal opinion and that we should tailor our travel accordingly in the future (we did try to book Baraza initially but it was fully booked). Still, the fact remains that this was a great property and we had a really relaxing time so no regrets”
