Solo Trip to Botswana

Bill Passmore, 6th November 2014
Overall Rating:

Overall a very special Experience. Everything was A1 from the variety of the game we saw; the knowledge and dedication of the guides; the quality of the camps and the camp staff; the personal attention of the camp Managers (and in camps where the managers wives were on site, the Manager's wives)and transport arrangements

Countries Visited

Botswana

“Everything I experienced was positive from the quantity and variety of the game to the ever chaging scenery”

Accommodation Visited

DumaTau Camp

“All that I have mentioned above applies to Duma Tau. In terms of the quality of the "tents",social areas and other facilities, it was probably the best of the three camps we visited. The staff and Management very friendly and helpful and out guide "Mocks" was superb. I doubt that many visitors experience Leopards mating: Leopards up a tree with their kill and two almost simultaneous Wild Dog kills along with the enormous variety of other game over a 4 day period!”

Little Vumbura Camp

“This camp offered a nice mix of water based activities and game viewing. All the camp facilities were excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. The Manager Steve and his wife Mandy went out of their way to interact with the guests and once again our guide "Rain" was superb. The outstanding game experiences were seeing an enormous herd of Buffalo on the move - Rain reckoned it comprised about 1000 head - lionesses with their cubs, lions mating and a lion (ess) kill. Watching Elephants "demolish" an ancient Baobab Tree that they had pushed over just before our arrival at the camp was a unique experience but it was sad to see the end of this beautiful specimen.”

“My comments regarding the other two camps apply equally to Kalahari Plains. The semi desert terrain and the different animals, flora and fauna made a nice contrast to the other two camps. The trouble that the staff went to to provide a"picnic" lunch with tables, chairs and all the accessories near Deception Vally (about a 3 hour drive from the camp) was an added bonus as was the "Bushman Walk" Alex the Manager (from Zimbabwe)was very friendly and helpful as were all the staff and our guide Fanie was an extremely knowledgeable and formidable charachter. Top viewing experiences included: lionesses with their cubs. an enormous herd of probably 1000 Springbok on the move; seeing a black maned Kalahari Lion walking to a water hole in front of the camp while we were having breakfast. And of course seeing the special animals of the Kalahari: hundreds of Oryx, Steenbok, Black Backed Jacals etc. Also a distant sighting of two Red Haartebeeste. The green grass of the Kalahari after the rain almost looked like Ireland! Some of the desert flowers especilaly the lillies were spectacular”

Staff Review
