Adventure Holiday to Uganda

Miss Amy Sullivan & Mr Daniel Goodheart, 10th June 2016
Overall Rating:

Truly amazing experience and well organised. Great to have the opportunity to visit lots of different places. We were very well looked after and saw some unforgettable things!

Countries Visited

Uganda

“Wonderful people and scenery. We felt very safe everywhere we went. The roads can be challenging in places but it is to be expected in some of the more rural areas. The people are extremely kind and hard working.”

Accommodation Visited

“Close to the airport which was handy after a long flight but unfortunately we did not have the most comfortable stay here. The hotel was on a busy road and it was impossible to sleep with it being so noisy. Loud music was playing very near by until around 3am as well. The food was ok but service slow and not always what we ordered. Was good to have the experience of staying in Entebbe but we did not leave feeling as refreshed as we'd hoped.”

Mantana's Lake Mburo Camp

“Great views of the lake and the only place on our trip to spot zebra and eland which we saw lots of. The tents were basic but very comfortable with excellent views. Staff were very friendly and always on hand to help, the food was also very good.”

Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge

“A very special place! The banda was really well appointed and spacious, the grounds were beautiful overlooking the rainforest. Complimentary massages were excellent and a very special treat. The staff here were so lovely and taught us a lot about the local area and introduced us to community projects that the lodge is involved with. Fires in the rooms and at dinner (food was wonderful) was a nice touch. The staff helped us get ready for gorilla trekking which was one of the most incredible once in a lifetime experiences. The gorillas came very close to us to check us out which was both scary and breathtaking! We were very lucky to have had such a perfect sighting. On arrival back at the lodge our boots were cleaned up as good as new! Would love to go back!”

Ishasha Wilderness Camp

“A stunning and secluded tented camp. The tents were very posh with beautiful views over the river with elephants often close by. We were lucky enough to see the tree climbing lions during one of our game drives which was very special. The staff were lovely and very funny, the chef was fantastic and the meals were outstanding.”

Katara Lodge

“Beautiful location and sprawling views over QE Country Park with equally impressive sunsets. The grounds were very pretty and rooms were really nice. It was lovely to have a bath and longer showers thanks to the solar heaters! Getting down to the park was challenging due to the very poor condition of the roads which seems to be a big problem for the locals as well. The trip to and from the the park check point took over an hour each way opposed to the 15-20 minutes it should have and was a very bumpy ride due to the huge craters in and around the road. This of course is not the fault of the lodge which is lovely and a place we would be very happy to stay at again. we have always wanted to visit Kyambura Gorge which is on route to the park. It was as stunning and we were lucky enough to find the chimpanzees during the gorge walk who were playing in the trees!”

Kyaninga Lodge

“The lodge itself, the views and the setting were out of this world. The place had a very luxurious feel and there was a lot of pride over the way in which it had been crafted. During our stay we did encounter a few problems with the service (very slow), food (we became unwell) and laundry (lost item). We also ventured out on a walk but the route was so unconventional and overgrown we ended up very lost in farmers fields with the staff trying to guide us back over the phone in the pouring rain. On arrival back at the lodge we were advised that the walk should not be undertaken alone (even though it was advertised as one you could do alone) and that a guide should have come with us. Sadly the time lost meant that we did not have the chance to enjoy some of the facilities during our last night in Uganda. The owner recognised the issues we'd had and offered some compensation which was appreciated. If it had not been for those issues, I'm sure we would have had a far more special stay and memorable for better reasons. The chimp tracking was enjoyable but the group size was very large making it a bit more touristy than the chimp experience we'd had in Kyambura Gorge. Still we are very happy that we got to see visit this area and this lodge despite it not quite being the highlight we had hoped.”

Staff Review

“Nikki was excellent like always. She has helped us book trips in the past, one of which being our wedding out in Kenya! She put together a fantastic itinerary for us and it was a pleasure to return back to Mahlatini to book our latest African adventure! Thank you Nikki!”
