Solo Trip to Zambia, Botswana & Zimbabwe

Carol Ann Morrisey, 30th October 2016
Overall Rating:

Everything went like clockwork. The transfers were unbelievably well-coordinated, and most of the camps and lodges were beautiful beyond belief. I was especially happy with the superb quality of the guides with whom I had the pleasure of tracking, viewing and studying the animals.

Countries Visited

Zambia

“I visited both South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi National Parks, and I was impressed with the large number and variety of animals whose paths we crossed during my stay. Two walking safaris and a canoe trip were among the highlights of my 10 days in Zambia, and I truly fell in love with the Zambezi River.”

Zimbabwe

“Zimbabwe is awesome. I visited Hwange, Mana Pools and Matusadona National Parks, and each of these offered extraordinary scenery and wildlife, including birds. I was particularly drawn to Lake Kariba, an otherworldly setting and a photographer's dream.”

Botswana

“I had been to Botswana before and couldn't wait to return. The Okavango Delta and the Linyanti region did not disappoint, and both remain dear to my heart. However, I was somewhat taken aback by the deteriorating quality of the roads in Chobe National Park. The scenery is lovely and there is no shortage of splendid animals. However, the discomfort of getting about in certain sections of the park was difficult for the body to bear, and even the most seasoned safari-goers among us said so.”

Accommodation Visited

Chinzombo Camp

“Luxury and sophistication from start to finish. Outstanding amenities and location with five-star guides to boot.”

Mchenja Bushcamp

“Chic and comfortable bush camp accommodations situated in attractive surroundings. Wildlife galore.”

“Top-quality tented chalets with breathtaking views. Wide variety of activities from which to choose, and this means no shortage of game-viewing opportunities.”

“This lodge, located on the Zambezi River, has the lushest, most spectacular landscaping imaginable and a pool large enough for swimming laps. It's easy to visit Livingstone from here, and there's plenty of game to see during the relaxing sunset cruises on offer.”

Somalisa Camp

“One of the most beautiful camps I've ever seen. Ever-smiling, ever-attentive staff and an amazing array of wildlife sharing the premises. What more could a visitor ask? I didn't want to leave.”

Kanga Camp

“The attractive lounge and dining area overlooking a waterhole which is frequented by area wildlife are key features, and the atmosphere at Kanga is friendly and laid-back. The reasons I rate this camp 4/5 instead of 5/5 are the following: 1) the bathroom facilities are a long step down from the main tent, 2) are separated from it by a difficult-to-manage-in-the-dark zippered "wall" and 3) are totally open to the elements, which makes using them during a thunderstorm unpleasant and perhaps even dangerous for guests.”

Changa Safari Camp

“What a delightful experience! Photo opportunities at every turn and one of the most sumptuous tents I've ever inhabited -- lovingly decorated with hand-crafted works of art and containing so many special touches it would be impossible to mention them all. The environs of the camp are magical, and the mood is mellow and relaxed.”

Muchenje Safari Lodge

“Scenic grounds and well-equipped lodge with a few too many bungalows, hence more people and more confusion than I experienced elsewhere on this trip. Unfortunately, the lay-out of my particular bungalow, which was quite small, made it hard to move around in at night.”

Lagoon Camp

“Exceptional camp with huge chalets overlooking the lagoon and legendary game drives in the Kwando Concession. (The drives are almost as wild as the game but great fun.)”

Kwara Camp

“Congenial, helpful staff and excellent food. The tents are small but adequate. Only the outdoor showers are problematic. The surroundings are picturesque and wildlife viewing opportunities are excellent.”

Staff Review

“Working with Rob to plan this incomparable adventure was exciting, educational and incredibly rewarding. He somehow managed to include everything I had hoped to do and just about every place I had my heart set on seeing, and he put together a package that fit within the limits of what I wanted to spend. Rob knows his clients and he knows his business. I've never been so happy with an itinerary -- aside from the fact that I wish I could have stayed in Southern Africa twice as long as I did.”
