The malaria-free Shamwari Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape is home to the Big 5, elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Luxury safari accommodation is offered in 6 different lodges including Riverdene Family Lodge, designed for families. The lodge provides extra activities to enhance the safari experience of young guests, with the 'kids on safari' program as well as the Kids Club and Outdoor Adventure Centre.
The lodge is small and intimate, with luxury, inter-leading, air-conditioned rooms. There's also a swimming pool, which has a shallow end for children, indoor and outdoor dining and a special kids menu on offer.

vacation to Riverdene Family Lodge
Perhaps it was due to the accommodation that had preceded it, but we did feel riverdene was a step down from the standard of accommodation we had experienced before. It was clean, tidy and spacious, but lacked any style and character. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the food was not outs…
And to top it all, finally to Shamwari and what a way to finish off. We were so lucky with our ranger, Sipho, and were all fascinated by his knowledge, warmth and stories. The conservation centre and Born Free foundation gave further insights and it's great to see the level of investment Shamwari…
