Marataba Safari Lodge is a luxurious tented safari camp in the Marataba reserve, a 21,000-hectare (52,000-acre), privately managed section of the Marakele National Park, in South Africa's Waterberg region. This malaria-free reserve is only 3.5 hour drive from Johannesburg and 45 minutes by private air charter.
The 15 tents possess a slick contemporary design that melds with the surrounding wilderness thanks to an excellent choice of colors, a canvas roof and part stone-part canvas walls. From your private balcony, you can gaze across at the Waterberg Mountains, rising nearby. All rooms include viewing decks, outdoor and indoor showers and a romantic stand-alone bath. Our guide, Hugh, was very knowledgeable. We learned a lot and loved our time on the safari. The staff was terrific and kind. Our daughter has diet restrictions and they were wonderful at accommodating them.
