It’s a well-preserved and private 170-year-old Walauwwa (an ancestral heritage villa) that harks back to the charm of old-world Ceylon. It sits on 2.5 acres of lush garden, home to birds and monkeys. In the environs of an untouched beach, it’s a piece of paradise blending Sri Lankan hospitality, heritage, and architecture.

Ideal as a private getaway for a group of 16, there is a choice of 8 rooms. There’s a superior room, 2 deluxe rooms, a 2-bedroom premier pool suite, with direct pool access, and a second 2-bedroom suite, the premier Waluwwa suite, with a private living room, dining area and patio. The villa maintains its original architectural features of verandas, courtyards, and hand-carved ornate timber window frames. It is decorated with Dutch-period antiques, colorful soft furnishings, ethnic touches, and fresh lotus flowers. Being a private villa, you can ask the chef to curate a menu to your personal preferences or indulge in Sri Lankan curries and seafood. Dine under the stars, or indoors. The villa also features a 50ft swimming pool and gardens that lead directly onto the beach (across a simple railway line that runs at the bottom of the garden, and which most find unobtrusive). The villa team will be delighted to assist in planning your excursions, from river safaris and watersports to garden tours and trips to Galle Fort.
