Simple but authentically charming, Kuyenda echoes the old world ambience of a traditional African safari camp. Situated next to the Manzi River, under a grove of mahogany trees, the surrounding area is a quieter section of the South Luangwa National Park and provides excellent game viewing. Kuyenda is seasonal and is open from June to November.
Accommodation is simple, taking the form of circular reed huts. Facilities inside include mosquito nets, en suite bathrooms that are open air and paraffin lanterns. A few home comforts are provided in the form of some comfy chairs, flush toilet and a hanging rail for clothes. The greatest luxury of this form of accommodation is its remote and private nature and the fantastic views of wildlife and scenery guests are afforded simply by looking out of their windows.
The camp's main area is designed in a similar vein; simple with rustic charm, which is a perfect for the enthusiastic safari goers. Guests can make use of the library, dining facilities, bar and sitting room and enjoy the warmth of the campfire in the evenings. Something that really sets Kuyenda apart is the presence of Phil Berry, who runs the camp with his partner. With almost 40 years of experience living in the African wilderness, Phil is an expert guide, with his wealth of knowledge greatly adding to any safari enjoyed at the property.
1 hour's flight to Mfuwe Airport from Lusaka (also accessed from Livingstone or Lilongwe in Malawi) and then a 45 minute drive to Mfuwe Lodge as a stop off point before a further 2 hour game drive to Kuyenda Camp.
