The history of Victoria Falls lies far beyond their discovery by David Livingstone in 1855, with their existence common knowledge to locals long before Livingstone arrived. However, as the first European to see the enormous waterfall, the area is rife with his namesake; one of the best known recipients being Livingstone Town.

Found just north of the Falls, Livingstone is the obvious gateway to the natural wonder thanks to the town's international airport. Livingstone's small town charisma can lend to a pleasant stay, with a good nightlife and a number of shops and restaurants to meet your needs.

Victoria Falls is, however, the main attraction. Fed by the Zambezi River, the 550 million litres of water that tumble over the 100m precipice is an impressive sight. Known as The Flight of Angels, one of the most invigorating ways to take in the spectacle is with mircolight or helicopter flights, while Livingstone Island and the Devil's Pool also provide a unique perspective. The former is a large island on the edge of the Falls while the latter is a pool formed only at certain times of the year which allows those brave enough to swim, lie, and peer directly over the edge of the Falls.

White water rafting, bungee jumping off of the Victoria Falls Bridge and a huge number of other activities are there to be enjoyed, with some very unique attractions on the roster. Catch the Royal Livingstone Express to experience the Falls by rail, or in the surrounds embark on Zambia's only elephant back safari or walk with lions.

Staying near the action is very much an option.
