With holidays to Lusaka discover a relatively new capital city, having only been named in 1935. Lusaka is similar to many of Africa's modern cities with an increasingly urbanised centre. Its recent growth, however, is quite unprecedented and a defining feature of the city as Lusaka vies for the title of fastest growing city in Africa. Yet, in-spite of its rapid expansion, Lusaka manages to retain a distinctive vibe, the undertones of which add plenty of character to a visit.
The city's international airport is one of the main hubs for exploring Zambia, with flights to the country's major destinations.
The city is centrally located in Zambia - a reason for its choice as capital - and with a setting on a high plateau you can expect a cooler climate when staying here. Lusaka's international hotels are growing in standards and generally offer visitors a comfortable stay, although staying beyond the city centre and indeed the suburbs might be an option you wish to consider. If you plan on staying longer and exploring all that the city has to offer then continuous travel from beyond the city limits might become tiresome, however for a stopover or a shorter stay it could be worth your while.
