Matetsi River Lodge
Matetsi River Lodge is a unique lodge in that can offer its guests a combination of rich wildlife viewing, legendary local hospitality as well as scenic and adrenalin-filled Victoria Falls experiences, all within an easy driving distance. It is set on a huge concession area boasting 9 miles of private Zambezi River frontage, so guests can enjoy the exceptional views from the comfort of their suites.
Two intimate camps, each with just nine river-facing suites and a family suite make up Matetsi River Lodge. Each camp is set in the deep shade of riverside trees and has a dedicated guest area. The suites themselves boast contemporary interiors of vibrant wood and copper, reflecting Zimbabwe's historic mining industry., and each suite offers indoor and outdoor showers, baths, in-room Wifi as well as private plunge pool.
The interactive kitchen serves delicious meals indoors or al fresco beneath a canopy of mangosteen and waterberry trees, where guests can enjoy the quiet murmur of the running waters and the sounds of grunting hippos and fish eagles. A cosy bar area is a gathering point in the evenings to swap stories of the day's adventures.
Activity wise, Matetsi has it covered. Zambezi River sundowner boat cruises and canoeing excursions will allow guests to take in the expanse of the mighty Zambezi, on the look-out for hippos, birds and crocodiles. Huge herds of elephants will regularly come down to the river to drink and play and can often be seen from the suites. Game drives and bush walks are also available, led by some of the finest safari guides in Zimbabwe. The 55 000 ha Matetsi Private Game Reserve offers large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as an assortment of plains game and predators. When you can bare to drag yourself away from the lodge the nearby Victoria Falls offers an assortment of adventures such as gorge swings, helicopter flips and white-water rafting.
Leisure hours at the lodge can be spent in the tranquil shared guest area or indulging in a soothing spa treatment, getting a work-out at the fitness centre or cooling off in the swimming pool.

Beautiful rooms. Staff & guides were competent, but lacking in warmth and engagement. Disappointing that tea at the Victoria Falls hotel was cancelled/not available since the hotel "couldn't accommodate a group our size" (they'd known we were coming for several months).
