Found on a private concession in the Hwange National Park, renowned for its large elephant herds, Somalisa Camp is wonderful bush camp accommodation tucked away amidst acacia trees. The camp is quite basic and offers few modern amenities, with no running water or electricity after dark. However, this can very much work in the camp's favour, with Somalisa recommending itself to those wishing for an authentic wilderness experience.
The camp is small, providing only 6 canvas tents, all of which feature en-suite bathrooms with flush toilet and romantic outdoor bush shower. Tents are large and built on wooden decking, 4 of the tents feature twin beds while 2 feature doubles. Possessing a very much old world ambience, tents are furnished accordingly. A canvas roof and side walls are complemented by gauze-mesh walls at either end of the tents, providing a welcome breeze.
The main lounge area of camp is comfortable, with an array of comfy chairs and the chance to relax with a good book, borrowed from the camp library. Private dining is something available at Somalisa on request, with communal dinning very much the order of the day. The hotel pool is an amazing place to get up close to one of Africa's gentle giants, proving perhaps more popular with the local elephants than with guests.
Road transfer from Victoria Falls or Bulawayo approximately 5.5 hours. Charter flights run from Bulawayo or Victoria Falls to Manga Airstrip and from there the camp is 30 min drive away.
Guided walks and day and night game drives as well as game viewing from hides.
