Honeymoon to Mauritius, Zimbabwe & Botswana

Julia Reitman & Jason Melnick, 22nd May 2012
Overall Rating:

We had without a doubt, the best honeymoon I could have envisioned for Jay and myself. Adam Chapman helped us choose the appropriate lodges, and I am so happy he kept nudging us towards Chobe Under Canvas. It was such a special place and even though we were "roughing it" (hardly, I know), Chobe was definitely one of our favorites. We adored the &Beyond people and their hospitality and will absolutely stay at &Beyond lodges again in the future. I'd go as far to say, probably exclusively &Beyond unless something better or more cost efficient came our way. The Delta was amazing as well, and we truly felt in the middle of nowhere...because, well, we were! The food at Nxabega was out of control. I think the only thing about Nxabega that could have made our stay even better was if their airstrip was functional, but it's been flooded for the past 4 years. The two hour drive from Pom Pom to camp is a bit long and exhausting, but that is not Mahlatini's or &Beyond's fault...just nature at work. The Four Seasons at Mauritius was just beyond luxury. We were so appreciative that Adam was able to get us upgraded to an Ocean Villa, it was gorgeous and made such a difference! We were able to get in four dives while there and had a fantastic time and lovely end to our honeymoon.

Countries Visited

Botswana

“We loved Botswana, beautiful country. We saw how there seemed to be a bit more wealth in Botswana compared to Zimbabwe, and were very impressed that they have never been to war and strive to resolve their issues through the courts.”

Mauritius

“Beautiful country, but very poor. We didn't see anything aside from our drive to and from the airport as we just stayed put on the Four Seasons resort itself - which was amazing!”

South Africa

“Didn't see any part of SA as we were just in transit through - the airport was very nice!”

Accommodation Visited

The Victoria Falls Hotel

“We enjoyed our stay at Vic Falls, but I think if we had to get rid of one part of our trip, it would be this. Or, we felt we could have shortened it to just one night: see the Falls, have dinner, head out.

We were very frustrated with the locals and their constant hassling to purchase products that were most likely made in China. It made our walk and visit to the Falls stressful and we couldn't enjoy ourselves as much as we would have otherwise.

The hotel itself was nice, and we were happy Adam was able to secure the suite we stayed in.”

Chobe Under Canvas

“Amazing, amazing. Saw so many different kinds of game and wildlife - the staff at Chobe were fantastic, such hard workers, we really appreciated everything they did for us. Delicious food! We couldn't get over the quality of food they were serving us, not to mention cut crystal stemware (!) made on their make-shift kitchen in the desert. Just fantastic all around.”

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp

“Beautiful lodge, lovely staff, the &Beyond way! We were given tent #1 - the farthest at the end for our privacy. It was beautiful, no way you feel you're in a tent. Food was just so, so, good! We didn't see nearly as much wildlife as we did in Chobe and were a tad disappointed in regards to that, but had different experiences and still really enjoyed ourselves.”

OR Tambo City Lodge

“Just fine for what it was!”

Anahita The Resort

“So beautiful! Very relaxing and a great end to our fantastic honeymoon.”

Staff Review

“Adam provided exceptional service, was very quick to provide advice, guidance and troubleshooting to my many, MANY emails! He is very knowledgeable about the countries we traveled to and I would recommend working with Adam to friends and family in the future.”
