SAFARI'S LAST FRONTIER
Many years ago, the first explorers ventured through the rainforests of the Congo—not to be confused with its neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo—returning with tales of great apes. Today, the spirit of those expeditions still echoes in the Forest Massif of Odzala-Kokoua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last remaining intact ecosystems on Earth. Immerse yourself in the Congo Basin rainforest—the world’s second largest after the Amazon. Wade through the mineral-rich Lango baïs in search of shy forest elephants and buffalo, or glide along the Lekoli River by kayak. Spot Western lowland gorillas in their natural habitat, or observe putty-nosed monkeys leaping through the treetops of the surrounding tropical rainforest. With a wealth of biodiversity, the forest beckons to those who wish to truly connect with nature.

When to visit
The Republic of the Congo’s equatorial climate means there is little variation in the average daytime temperature of 75°F. The dry season, from May to September, offers the best conditions for trekking and wildlife viewing. The wet season, while lush, can make some areas harder to reach but is perfect for birdwatching in a more tranquil setting.
