Adventure Holiday to Namibia

Mrs Sara Parker, 24th May 2023
Overall Rating:

We had the most amazing trip. Absolutely fantastic, and we wanted to share our comments and thoughts with you in more detail to help with future client bookings. In summary, all three places were magical!

Accommodation Visited

Kulala Desert Lodge

“Sossusvlei - this is an incredible place and a must see for people going to Namibia. The lodge is beautiful and all the staff are extremely friendly and thoughtful. Looking back on our trip, we would have found it helpful to have a list of available activities either in advance of travelling or when checking in. There were options such as hot air ballooning, and quad biking, which we were only aware of when other guests were discussing them. We went riding on electric bikes through the dunes one day which was wonderful, but we only knew about it because we happened to walk past the bikes when we went in and we asked our guide to do it with us. Having a list of that sort of thing to be aware of the options would be great.”

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

“This was a truly remarkable location and an absolute highlight of the trip. The lodge is very nicely renovated and the rooms are well equipped, and very spacious, with lovely aspects of the watering hole. The standout features of this lodge were the staff who were incredibly helpful and couldn’t seem to do enough to make your stay perfect. They remembered every little detail of what each guest preferred and enjoyed and would go out of their way to accommodate it without being asked. For example, they arranged a day trip to the beach where we had a 3 1/2 hour drive through the reserve spotting animals (including lions!) to the beach. At the beach, they take you to see shipwrecks, seals, and more lions. Our guide knew that we liked birds, so he made a special point of going to an oasis by the beach so we could see the beautiful birds. The manager remembered a particular type of white wine that we liked and ensured that that was packed for us for lunch. The camp took the main chef out to the beach to cook lunch just for us which was unreal! The whole day was spectacular.

Another example, the manager discovered that Lee had failed to bring any jumpers with him to Namibia, despite it being the start of winter! So she bought a coat from her own house for him to use while we were there. She even said he should keep it for the whole trip and drop it at the airport when we left. We didn’t end up doing that but it was incredibly thoughtful. That is the sort of care and special attention that this lodge pays to guests. It was also by far the best food and wine in any of the lodges. The chef, Marianna, was amazing and the wine selection was head and shoulders above the others. They had clearly taken a lot of care to get things right. It is a truly exceptional place.”

Andersson's at Ongava

“This lodge has been newly renovated and is beautiful. There is a range of lovely communal sitting areas in the main lounge and by the pool. They have added some really thoughtful details like a bench running along the front of the restaurant area with cushions so that you can sit and look out over the watering hole. They light the water hole at night and we saw rhinos close up in both evenings. They have a hide that you can sit in and watch animals up close at the watering hole which was a really unique and great feature. And the rooms at this lodge were our favourite of all of the ones we stayed in. They were huge, really comfortable and they have some really lovely features like a swing on the large terrace where you can sit looking out at the water hole, and an outside shower. The only thing we weren’t keen on was one of the game drives where they take you into the national park. This is actually quite busy in comparison to the private reserve and you have to stick to the main roads so you can’t get close to the animals. Given the beauty of the private reserve, our view is that they should just focus on doing the drives there unless a guest specifically wants to go into the national park. What they have on their doorstep is so magical.”

Staff Review

“We can’t wait until our next adventure - Botswana is calling us! We will be back in touch when we’re ready to book again, but thank you for everything Steve. You have been so helpful from the original booking, to the pre-trip call, the briefing pack, the welcome home pack, your help with the airport assistance while we were there, all of those things really do show that you care about your guests. Thank you Steve!”
